Dear Members,
We are all saddened by the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey on our neighbors in the Houston area and beyond. Although the storm is finally moving away, water levels continue to rise displacing even more people from their homes and businesses. The paralysis of one of our nation’s largest metropolitan areas is unprecedented.
Please visit our website to learn a variety of ways you can help – www.DallasBar.org As we saw in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, there will be need for volunteer attorneys in addition to financial and logistical assistance. We are in contact with the leadership of the legal communities affected by Hurricane Harvey and will continue to offer our support as they assess their needs.
The Supreme Court of Texas and the Court of Criminal Appeals of Texas issued an Emergency Order Authorizing Modification and Suspension of Court Procedures in Proceedings Affected by Disaster. This order provides relief from deadlines and procedures due to delays caused by the disaster. As the business of our justice system continues, please continue to show professional courtesy and compassion to the attorneys, litigants, and Court personnel who are coping with these difficult circumstances.
The legal community is a family. It is humbling to see so many of you reaching out to your brothers and sisters in the profession during this time. Thank you for your generosity and service.
Stronger Together
