The Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP) is pleased to announce that Michelle Alden has been selected as its next Director. Alden, a 10-year employee of DVAP, currently serves as the managing attorney of the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, one of the preeminent pro bono programs in the country, serving thousands of low-income people in the Dallas area each year.
Alden will succeed Alicia Hernandez who assumed the role of Executive Director of the Dallas Bar Association on January 1, 2017.
The Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program is a joint program of the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas which was created to address the legal needs of the poor in Dallas. DVAP is an organization dedicated to increasing and enhancing pro bono legal services to the poor in Dallas through the recruitment, training, and support of volunteer attorneys. The program provides free legal assistance to over 4,000 low-income families with civil legal needs each year.
The director runs DVAP’s daily business, including fundraising for the program, managing a staff of 13, and oversight of the organization’s budget.
Before practicing law in Dallas, Alden earned her B.A. in English with high honors from The University of Texas at Austin and her J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law, where she served as an editor of the Texas International Law Journal.
She is an active member of the Junior League of Dallas and enjoys performing in the Dallas Bar Foundation’s annual Bar None variety show, which raises funds for the Sarah T. Hughes Diversity Scholarship Program.
