The Dallas Bar Association (DBA) is pleased to announce the selection of Alicia E. Hernandez as its next executive director. Hernandez, a 15-year employee of the DBA, currently serves as the director of the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, one of the preeminent pro bono programs in the country, serving thousands of low-income people in the Dallas area each year. Hernandez also serves as director of the DBA’s community service programs, as well as director of the Lawyer Referral Service.

Hernandez will succeed Executive Director Cathy Maher who will retire after 38 years with the Association. Hernandez will assume her new role on January 1, 2017.

Hernandez said, “I am honored to have been selected to serve as the sixth Executive Director of the DBA. The DBA is nationally recognized as a premiere bar association in the country and I look forward to working with the Association’s leadership and its dedicated staff to continue the great legacy of this Association.”

The selection of Hernandez is the result of a rigorous and comprehensive national search. The Search Committee was led by members of the Board of Directors, present, former and future Presidents, and long-standing bar leaders who have an excellent sense of the DBA and legal community. “The Search Committee represented a broad spectrum of the legal community and was diverse in every way,” said Kim Askew, chair of the Search Committee.

DBA president, Jerry Alexander said, “Alicia is familiar with the Dallas Bar, she is well-spoken, respected by our members, has terrific ideas and is extremely hard-working.  Alicia will continue to keep us in the forefront as one of the most respected bar associations in the country.  She is steeped in the traditions of this Bar and has a broad understanding of the needs of lawyers and bar associations as we look to the future.”

The executive director runs the Association’s daily business, including oversight of the Belo Mansion, managing a staff of 24 and oversight of budgets of some $4.3 million.

Hernandez received a B.A. from Emory University and a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1992. She is married to Domingo Davila and they have three children, Martín, Anna Rose, and John.
